Electrostatic Air Filter FAQ.

Questions:

1) DOES A DIRTY AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM USE MORE ELECTRICITY?

A mear .06 of an inch of dirt on the fan blade decreases the efficiency of the blade by 33%

Yes, because dirt is an insulator, it interferes with the heat transfer between the air and you're cooling coil. This causes the system to run longer. "A build up of .042 inches of dirt on a cooling coil can result in a decrease in efficiency of 21%." (EPA)

 

2) IS YOUR FILTER HARD TO CLEAN?

NO ! With our instructions the average filter comes completely clean in about 5 minutes. We designed the filter with ease of cleaning in mind. And with our free monthly e-mail reminder to clean your filter we do not believe it could be any easier.

 

3) HOW DO I GET A GOOD SEAL AROUND MY ELECTROSTATIC AIR FILTER SO AIR DOES NOT GET AROUND THE FILTER?

Our frame is made from aluminum and will seal only as good as a metal to metal fit. We suggest you install flat foam weather stripping on the inside edge of your return air grill where the filter will rest upon the foam to seal the filter.

 

4) MY NEIGHBOR WALKED UP AT THE WRONG TIME AND I BACK FLUSHED THE RED/PURPLE FILTER IN THE WRONG DIRECTION. IS THIS SERIOUS?

NO, You just should not make a habit of cleaning your filter with your neighbor around. Seriously, it will not affect the filter as long as you finished cleaning the filter the correct way.

 

5) YOUR DIRECTIONS MENTION ONLY WASHING THE FILTER WITH WATER; DO YOU RECOMMEND AGAINST A GENTLE DETERGENT FOR A WASH STEP BEFORE RINSING?

Yes, Do not spray detergent on the layers of polypropylene weave. First of all you will see how unnecessary that step is and secondly if you do not rinse all of the detergent off it may have a negative effect on the electrostatic action of the filter. If you would like to use a gentle detergent on the red/purple filter piece that is ok, but I do not think it is necessary. Once the layers are separate cleaning the filter is very easy.
